This week at school we have all been celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday. Today in the seahorse class we made, and played with, "Oobleck". This is a really fun substance to play with that feels like a solid when you touch it but then melts in the warmth of your hand, fingertips, etc. The idea comes from the Dr. Seuss book, Bartholomew and the Oobleck. Oobleck is made with cornstarch and water. It is very fun to play with but very messy. Some of us LOVED Oobleck and others were not interested. Katie did not love it but she did try it. As an alternative, we gave her free choice and she chose what she is doing in the picture! :) She is literally standing on her head. :)

Katie had her first autism evaluation last week. Katie's interpreter met us there, and she interpreted for Katie while Katie worked on various activities with the psychologist. Once the activities were finished, Arlin and I then met with the psychologist and answered several more questions. We were there a total of almost 3 hours! Katie did great, too! She got a little impatient about halfway through and asked to leave, but we got her settled back in and she did fine for the remainder of the eval. We go back on March 30 for an eval with a speech and language pathologist.
We had a meeting at school with Katie's educational team this week to go over the results of her triennial review for services. There was really nothing unexpected that came up in the meeting--we just heard from her support educator and therapists on her progress, her current strengths and challenges, and what services are recommended for her to receive for next school year. It was a pretty long meeting since we had so many areas to cover. We could have even run longer if the room wasn't needed for another meeting right after ours. Katie's IEP meeting is coming up on March 23. It's a busy month for meetings and evaluations!

LOL. Love the pic! And sounds like the eval is going well so far. What a long process.
I love what Katie chose to do with her time.... love the picture! Christopher would of chose the same thing... I am almost sure of it since lately he has been using our tv to put his tv on and then he stands on his head! The evaluation sounds like it is going well and I hope that it continues in that direction!
Sounds busy!! I love her choice of what else to do, very cute Katie. Good luck with all the meetings.
Hee Hee! Katie - you and Gracie could hang out like that!! She is often doing her yoga poses and I just posted some, ironically!
Although, as your mama knows from our silly pictures, she would definitely love the Oobleck, too!
Leslie... I love uneventful meetings, even when they are long! :-)
Hope things are continuing to move in a good, positive direction as the IEP approaches. And, hoping that with this new placement, other services (and maybe equipment/tech at home, too) comes available to Katie...?
Thanks to you, I was so prepared for Gracie's triennial... and even though I knew what to expect as far as her "labels" for developmental progress, the whole process was/is draining. So much ground to cover in those meetings and so much in black and white on those hideous reports... ugh!
I know that your brain and heart will be glad when it's all said and done!
